Ferries to France

France in a nutshell

France is the second largest country in Europe, located south of the Channel Islands and England. France is the most visited country in the world; over 80 million people visit France annually. This seems hardly surprising with France's reputation for sophisticated cities and shopping, glorious weather in the south, the finest vineyards in the world, and as the home of fine cuisine. France proudly boasts many tourist attractions with something to suit every traveller; from the ski resorts of the Alps, the beaches of the Atlantic coast, and the chateaux of the Loire Valley to the traditional holiday regions Normandy and Brittany enjoyed for their beauty and tranquillity, the French Riviera (Côte D'Azur), St Tropez and the most romantic city in the world, Paris.

Sightseeing - Some highlights

France is home to enough sightseeing essentials for several holidays. Some of the most famous sights to take in include the architectural icon the Eiffel Tower, symbol of Paris and France as a whole, the Louvre museum, the Arc De Triumph and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the spectacular Palace of Versailles, the-Mont St. Michael in Normandy, the Château de Chambord, the Alps, the beautiful countryside of Provence, the countless vineyards, the World War One cemeteries in the north, and of course Disneyland Paris.

Food

France is world famous for its gastronomy, and is often a by-word for fine dining. As the home of cordon bleu fine cooking it is no surprise to find that French food can be of the highest quality, with most establishments from the fine Michelin star restaurants of Paris to brasseries and crêpe stalls all over the country taking pride in offering great food. France is also of course famous for its food produce, wines and cheeses and bread, including the emblematic baguette.

The home of wine, France's famous wine growing regions include Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhone, the Loire Valley and Champagne. France can certainly also be considered perhaps the most notable country for cheese, with nearly 400 varieties, such as Brie, Roquefort, Camembert and Munster, available, including many delightful regional specialities.

Entertainment

Entertainment is in plenty of supply in France; all towns, and even most villages, have one or two restaurants and a bar to enjoy the evening in. In the main cities, especially Paris, there are restaurants, cafés and bars galore, as well as nightclubs, casinos, music concerts and all manner of entertainment you could want in a city. There are also many theatres and live attractions in Paris, including the famous Moulin Rouge.
